Urban Scholarship Programs

Detroit Area Urban Scholarship Program

Our Detroit Area Scholarship Program is established to share the message of Jesus Christ with underserved kids in the Detroit Area in the context of a SpringHill camping experience. This year, there are more than 260 campers coming to our Day Camps and overnight camps from Southeast Michigan. These campers come from the outreach efforts of numerous Detroit area churches, the Boys and Girls Club of Detroit, St. Francis Family Center, City Mission, Mack Avenue Church, Hope Community Church, and NorthRidge Church. We also have campers with special needs and many families in need who are not affiliated with these organizations. The total need for these campers is $45,000. A $75 gift will provide 'camper stuff' for an overnight camper, a $135 gift will pay for a Day Camper, and a $225 gift will sponsor an overnight camper. Thank you for your help!

Indianapolis Urban Scholarship Program

Our annual goal is to provide 100 scholarships for kids from the city of Indianapolis. Working with Tony Dungy and Citizens Energy in Indiana, and through community organizations and churches, SpringHill will identify kids who will benefit from a SpringHill camping experience. We need your help to make this happen. If you want to help SpringHill reach kids from the city of Indianapolis, this is the fund to support!

Other scholarship needs

Special Needs Scholarship Fund

Our inclusion program is unique in the camping industry. Our campers with special needs are included in daily activities with all our campers to the extent that their abilities allow. To accomplish this, we staff for one-on-one counseling for each camper with special needs and provide specialized housing as needed. To charge for these extra costs would be prohibitive for our inclusion kids so we solicit gifts to help cover them. The annual cost to SpringHill for the additional housing and staffing exceeds $75,000.

Named Scholarships

Named scholarships are those that have been put in trust or in memoriam. The following Named Scholarships are currently available.
  • SpringHill Staff Campership Fund- This scholarship has been established and supported by the many SpringHill staff, past and present, whose lives have been changed by serving here. Funds are directed to the local communities surrounding Evart, MIchigan and Seymour, Indiana.
  • Jerry Martin Summer Staff Scholarship - Jerry died suddenly in early February 2009. His influence on SpringHill and especially our summer staff cannot be overstated. This fund has been established by the family and friends of Jerry to honor his legacy. This fund provides several full-ride salary scholarships for selected summer staff.
  • Ozzie Richter Memorial Scholarship - This fund was developed established by the family of Ozzie Richter, long time friend of SpringHill who passed on to be with his Savior in 2008. The fund is established to honor his life and that of the many children in his life that attended SpringHill and were changed by their experiences there. It is the hope of the family that more children will be changed by the message of Christ at SpringHill as a result of their award of this scholarship.

Neighbors Program

Our Neighbors Program is established in partnership with several church and parachurch organizations. Scholarship selection is based on criterion set up by the partner organization and is targeted to those who are economically disadvantaged. These kids would be unable to have a SpringHill experience if it weren’t for the generosity of the supporters of this fund and contributions of the partner organization. SpringHill needs gifts from our friends to help fund this program. We discount camp tuition by more than 75% to support these organizations and their kids.

changed lives

“For a 13 year old who lives his life in a wheelchair—to be able to do zip lines, lake tubing, high ropes, group games, etc. (doing everything) is an uncommon feeling, especially as he lives most of life in a world that tells him all the things he can’t do—because he has a physical disability and how ‘different’ he is than a ‘normal’ kid.”- Parent of Camper with Special Needs

did you know...

After a week at SpringHill, 92% of campers indicated they understood better what Jesus Christ did for them. That's 11,850 kids in one summer!
